Strategy Generation Management is a discipline in IT service management.
IT is often referred to as Service Strategy process, however for the purpose of this document naming shall remain as Strategy Generation process.
The role of Strategy Generation Manager is to ensure the goals of the Strategy Generation Management process are achieved. The main goal is to ensure alignment between Business and the IT Organisation. By aligning strategies to business we are gaining long-term survival to the IT Organisation.
The Service Provider should not be optional. Through alignment to the business, and developing offers neatly packaged in Strategic assets, Business Value is clearly stated through specific Business outcomes in the Service Portfolio.
The job
The Strategy Generation Manager is a position within the scope of Strategy Generation Management ITILv3 process.
The main activities include:
- Defining the market: Market for Services & Services for the market
- Develop the offerings: Core Level Packages plus Supporting Service Packages
- Develop Strategic Offerings: Packaging the Service in Service lifecycle ITSM Delivery and Support
- Prepare for execution: Ensuring differentiation, making the IT Service Provider not optional.

Position
- Immediate seniors are the Service Strategy Manager and ITSG (IT Steering Group).
- Immediate juniors are the staff triggering the Strategy Generation Management process.
- "Users" are all users of internal and external IT services.
- "Customers" are users of IT services internally in the organization and external paying customers that use the companies IT Services.
- "Suppliers" are parties defined by Service Design Supplier Management key process for each IT Service.
