A Standard Change is a change that is pre-approved by the Change Manager. For a Change to become a Standard Change it must pass through the Change Management process and be approved by the Change manager.

The crucial elements of a Standard Change are:

  • There is a defined trigger to initiate the RfC
  • The tasks are well known, documented and proven
  • Authority is effectively given in advance
  • Budgetary approval will typically be pre-ordained or within the control of the Change requester
  • The risk is (usually) low, and always well understood

A Standard Change is based on the 7 R's of Change Management.

  1. Who raised the change?
  2. What is the reason for the change?
  3. What is the return required from the change?
  4. What are the risks involved in the change
  5. What resources are required to deliver the change?
  6. Who is responsible for the build, test and implementation of the change?
  7. What is the relationship between this change and other changes?
