Goals & Objectives
- To provide an accurate information over the IT infrastructure and its components
- Accurate configuration records and their relationships is vital.
Terminology
- SACM - Abbrev. for Service Asset and Configuration Management
- CI - Configuration items are controlled, measured, manged by configuration management
- CMDB - Configuration Management Database stores all managed information on all defined CIs
- Baseline - Basic configuration
- CMS - Configuration Management System, under which CMDB is a part
- Presentation layer - A way of presenting certain information to different groups
- DML - Definiteve Media Library is a secure store where all authorized and approved and up to date (live) versions of media CIs are stored
- Configuration baseline - Taken for later comparison
- Snapshot - A status of a CI at athat given time. Snapshots are not updated.
- SKMS - Service Knowledge Management System

Scope
- All assets used within the service life cycle fall within the scope of asset management.
- Configuration management defines and ensures accurate records for all CIs that are relevant to a service. This may include business and supplier CIs.
