Component Organisation

The success of projects managed with PRINCE2 method is dependent upon the organisational structure. The BUS (Business, User, Supplier) roles must be defined along with clear roles and responsibilities. The BUS roles may all be part of the same corporate organisation.

In relation to the size and complexity of a project, these roles can be combined or shared. There are 4 layers to a PRINCE2 Organisation Structure; Corporate/Programme Management; Project Board; Project Manager; Team Manager.

The last 3 make up the Project Management Team, along with the optional Project Support.

The Project Manager is a central role to PRINCE2. The Project Manager is responsible for day to day management of the project and reports to the Project Board.

The Project Board on its behalf should manage by exception. This means that once tolerances are exceeded or expected to exceed, the Project Manager should contact the Project Board for further approval.
