Component Business Case

The Business Case must drive the project forward. The Business Case is the “why?” of a project. The Business Case is continually checked throughout a project to ensure the project is worthwhile. A PRINCE2 project must always have an updated Business Case. If a viable Business Case does not exist during a PRINCE2 project, the project must be stopped.

The focus of the Business Case should be based on the benefits of the outcomes of the project defined in measurable terms.

During the PRINCE2 process, Managing Stage Boundaries, the Business Case is checked for irregularities, updated as necessary and presented to the Project Board for authorisation to continue based on the potential benefits of the Project.
