Business Case

Purpose: To document the justification for the undertaking of the project, based on the estimated cost of development and implementation against the risks and expected business benefits and savings to be gained.

Note: A business case should be a frozen document, but updated versions should be written during the project should the need arise, thus creating a series of frozen versions. A successful project is delivering true to the Business Case. A Business Case is owned by the Project Executive.

Items that should be included:

  • Reason / Description for the project
  • Viable options for the project
  • Benefits expected after the project
  • Risks in terms of tolerance & appetite
  • Cost of the project
  • Timescale of the project. Every project must have defined timescale.
  • Reasons to invest for stakeholders
